Doctor accused ofrapingNantwich woman

Siddiqi had been working at Middlewich Medical Centre for nine months when he found a
new job at Eagle Bridge Health and Wellbeing Centre in Crewe.
Staff and friends went for a night out in Sandbach on October 10 to celebrate before the pair
were dropped off in Nantwich in a taxi. The prosecution say the attack happened in the
woman’s living room.
The next day, Siddiqi sent her a text message saying: “I’m mortified by my behaviour. I was
like a dog on heat. Are you OK?”
Myles Wilson, prosecuting, said the defendant invited himself into the woman’s home for a
drink. “There was no suggestion of romance,” he said. “She was engaged to her boyfriend
who was working overseas and the defendant was supposed to be getting married the
following week.
“She made them both a drink of brandy and at first they were just chatting. But he wanted to
take it further than that. He got so worked up that he wouldn’t take no for an answer.”
The woman said: “We put some music on and he said he’d show me how to dance. Then I sat
on the floor and he said: ‘Do you like massages?’
“I said yes but then he started touching my legs. I said: ‘What are you playing at?’”
Siddiqi is then alleged to have raped the woman, who suffered a carpet burn on her ankle, a
sore neck and bruising to her thighs and left breast.
Siddiqi, described as a popular gentleman and patients’ favourite, pleaded not guilty and is
adamant that he was invited into her home by the woman. In a police statement read out in
court he said: “There came a point where she said we should stop what we’re doing and that
is when she said: ‘I think you had better go.’
“I didn’t feel like it was all me. I did feel wrong about it because it was irresponsible of me to
find myself half-naked with another woman.”
He said he had seen the effects rapists had on their victims.

Siddiqi added: “There’s no way I would have continued if she wasn’t happy with what was
going on,” and described the whole episode as ‘very passive’.
When quizzed about the text message, Siddiqi said being ‘like a dog on heat’ meant he was
unable to stop himself cheating on his fiancée, who is now his wife.
